Moirang, March 28 2016:
Amid the indefinite Churachandpur district and Tiddim road bandh imposed by the Khousabung Subdivision Demand Committee (KSDDC) which began last midnight, Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur Lunminthang Haokip today inaugurated the new and 'controversial' SDO/BDO office at Kangvai.
At the same time, asserting that the SDO/BDO office inaugurated surreptitiously and covertly today by the Government through Churachandpur district administration at Kangvai will never be accepted or given cognizance by the public, the KSDDC has announced its 'boycott' of Henglep MLA T Manga Vaiphei.
Meanwhile, the KSDDC has suspended its indefinite bandh with immediate effect.
The indefinite bandh was imposed by KSDDC to protest the alleged indifferent and insensitive attitude of the State Govt to its demand.
It has been demanding renaming of the new subdivision as Khousabung SDO/BDO with its headquarters at Khousabung.
The SDO/BDO office inauguration function was attended amongst others by KT Vaiphei, Addl DGP, M Haokip, SP, CCpur, Soiminlian Lengen, SDO, Henglep and Seiminthang Lenthang, MCS.
Speaking at the occasion, Lunminthang Haokip said that the office was inaugurated as per the instruction of the Govt even as there is objection from certain quarters.
On the other hand, the indefinite Churachandpur district and Tiddim road bandh imposed since last midnight by the KSDDC affected normal life in Churachandpur.
The bandh was strictly enforced along Tiddim road from Kwakta till CCpur district headquarters.
Bandh volunteers staged road block at K Salbung and other places along Tiddim road.
About 100 bandh supporters from Khousabung area were detained by Moirang police personnel.
However, they were released unconditionally after the inauguration function of the SDO office at Kangvai.
Speaking to reporters, Thienkhomang Haokip, chairman of Henglep Subdivision Chiefs' Association said that the inauguration of the SDO office at Kangvai will not stop the movement for justice easily and it will only invite more trouble until the subdivision is renamed Khousabung with its headquarters at Khousabung as per the wishes of the people.
A bandh supporter strongly condemned the insensitive act of the State Govt for harassing the democratic protesters.
In a statement today, the KSDDC in unequivocal term condemned the State Government's 'covert action' through Churachandpur district administration in inaugurating the office of SDO/BDO at Kangvai.
The 'heedless' action of DC, Churachandpur on this highly sensitive and sentimental issue and his direct involvement to implement the parochial agenda of the local MLA is a disgrace to the people of the area.
The KSDDC said it is deeply perturbed by the blatant indifferent attitude of the State Government towards the genuine grievances of the people by its disgraceful action seen today at Kangvai.
As compelled, the KSDDC and people of the area announced their boycott of T Manga Vaiphei, MLA, 57-Henglep AC for betraying his people, undermining the voice of the people who elected him and hurting their sentiments beyond redemption, it said.
The KSDDC and people of the area will never accept or recognise SDO/BDO office at Kangvai which was done surreptitiously today by DC, Churachandpur.
"We will not give any cognizance to the SDO/BDO which has been established against the wishes of the people by suppressing democratic voice of the people by the State Govt," it said.
Considering the hardship faced by the general public, the indefinite bandh (which began from midnight of March 27) has been suspended with immediate effect, it said while adding that it will continue its fight for justice till their goal is achieved.
The KSDDC expressed gratitude to all organisations concerned and individuals who readily extended sincere cooperation in its struggle for justice.
