TDDC calls total bandh

Imphal, March 28 2016:
With the ultimatum it served on the
Government of Manipur to create a separate Tongjeimarin district
by carving out certain areas from Tamenglong, Senapati, Imphal
East (Jiribam) and Churachandpur districts already expired on
March 25, the Tongjeimarin District Demand Committee (TDDC)
has called a 24-hour bandh from March 28 midnight.
According to a press release issued by the TDDC, all
vehicular traffic would be banned completely with the excep-
tion of medical service, examinations, water supply, marriage
and religious ceremonies.
The bandh would be imposed totally along Keithelmanbi to
Ijei Bridge (Noney) along NH-37 and Khongsang to Gularthol
police station bordering Jiribam sub-division.
The total bandh would also be imposed on the Tongjeimarin
Road (Old Cachar Road) from Chinikon to Reangpang as
well as along the road leading to Leimatak Power House from
Loktak Project.
All construction works should be suspended and all Gov-
ernment offices located within the proposed district should
remain shut during the bandh hours, it said.
Meanwhile, the Ruangmei Youths Development Organisa-
tion (RYDO) has offered full support to the 24 hours total
bandh called by the TDDC in pursuit of the demand for
creation of a separate Tongjeimarin district.
