Kangpokpi, October 25 2021: Kangpokpi AC MLA, Nemcha Kipgen along with BJP Kangpokpi Mandal and people of Poudel Basti on Monday celebrated India's milestone of 100 Crore Covid vaccination at 9 Miles Poudel Basti.

As part of the celebration, a second dose Covid vaccination programme was also held at the village.

To mark the celebration, Nemcha Kipgen distributed sweets and other food items to all the participants and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his persistent effort and concern for the people.

The MLA also thanked the people of Kangpokpi, especially the health care workers, other frontline workers, and the COVID Task Force of Kangpokpi AC for getting together to be a part of India's landmark achievement.

She stated that after 279 days of struggles and relentless efforts, India scripted history by becoming only the second nation after China to reach the one billion COVID-19 vaccinations milestone on October 21 .

"I am happy that people in my constituency particularly the Gorkha/Nepali community have contributed a lot in the milestone achievement" she added.

Nemcha Kipgen also mentioned that to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus, India started its vaccination drive on January 16 this year and at the time only two vaccines, namely, Covaxin and Covishield were available while it (India) has granted Emergency Use Authorization to six COVID vaccines till date.

She also pointed out that three vaccines have been in emergency use namely, Covishield manufactured by Serum Institute of India, Covaxin manufactured by Bharat Biotech Limited, and Sputnik V developed by Gamaleya Research Institute, Russia while adding that Covishield has emerged as the mainstay of the vaccination drive accounting for 88.58 per cent of the total dose administered and Covaxin has been given to 11.46 per cent of beneficiaries while Sputnik V has been given to a minuscule number of beneficiaries.

The MLA also distributed bags printed with the image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, and the MLA herself that were made under Prime Minister Gareeb Kalyan Anna Muft (Ration) Yojana to all the participants.

Meanwhile, Nemcha Kipgen also visited the second dose vaccination site at the village and thanked all the beneficiaries for coming out in huge numbers for the second dose.

She said that though India has achieved one billion COVID-19 vaccination, the fight against the pandemic is not over for Kangpokpi as many are yet to get the second dose, and many more are yet to be vaccinated.

The local MLA also interacted with the people on various development works taken up by the BJP Government and those in the pipeline while exhorting the people of Poudel Basti to vote the BJP into power again for more development and changes in the area.

Meanwhile, BJP Kangpokpi Mandal led by its president, Tingnei Lhouvum had a booth level meeting at Poudel Basti.
