Many more condemn attack on scribe

The Thoubal District Newspaper Hawker Association has strongly condemned the alleged assault on Thoubal correspondent of Naharolgi Thoudang Elangbam Rameshwor by workers of Heirok Block Congress at his own home at Heirok Part-I, Bazar Maning Leikai on Sunday.
In a release, Thoubal District Newspaper Hawker Association stated that the assault was unfortunate and prayed for speedy recovery of Elangbam Rameshwor.
Besides, Ukhrul District Working Journalist Association (UDWJA) also condemned the tragic incident and stated that the act is viewed as an attack on 'freedom of expression'.
It also appealed to the Government to take up the matter with urgency and book the culprits at the earliest.
'For the greater good of all, concerned parties are urged to refrain from the culture of taking direct action on any working journalists over dissatisfaction with any publication of news, said UDWJA in a release.
The association also urged to take up any issues concerning the publication of news with the concerned editors first and settle the matter amicably through dialogue.
The UDWJA further shared the pain and extended its support to Elangbam Rameshwor and his family.
Moreover, Heirok AC MLA Thokchom Radheshyam also condemned the alleged assault on Elangbam Rameshwor and expressed his concern over the increasing cases of violence in Heirok.
Speaking to media persons at his residence in Heirok, the MLA termed the incident unfortunate and appealed to the people to refrain from any violent activities in the future.
Thokchom Radheshyam further informed that he had already apprised the Chief Minister N Biren Singh on the matter along with a request to post sufficient police personnel in Heirok to prevent any untoward incident in the future.
