One injured, house torched in Heirok violence

Imphal, October 25 2021:
A 26-year old youth suffered serious injuries in election related violence in Heirok assembly constituency in Thoubal district on Monday while an irate mob burned down house of a person, who reportedly assaulted the youth.
The injured victim has been identified as Abujam Ramananda son of Ito of Heirok Kabo Leikai and the attacker as Thokchom Romeo (44) son of Ingo of Heirok Thokchom Leikai.
The injured is now fighting for his life at Raj Medicity.
He was attacked by a sharp object on his face and sustained severe injuries.
Police source said that the incident occurred on Monday around 7.30 pm when Ramananda was returning home and Romeo attacked him with a weapon suspected to be a spade.
Locals and family rushed Ramananda to hospital and a violent mob vandalised the house of Romeo.
Later in the evening the locals burned down the house.
Thoubal district police team led by additional SP (Ops) rushed there and controlled the situation.
Tight security measures have been taken up to prevent further escalation of violence.
Meanwhile, Heirok MLA Thokchom Radheshyam has appealed to the people of Heirok assembly constituency to refrain from violent activities and to focus their attention in protecting women and children as well as maintaining peaceful atmosphere.
On the other-hand, former MLA of Heirok and Congress candidate Moirangthem Okendro said that the poll related violence in Heirok A/C is unfortunate.
He recalled that Thoubal SP imposed restrictions under section 144 of CrPC in the constituency after his request so as to ensure peaceful conduct of the upcoming election.
Okendro urged people of his constituency to respect the restrictions being imposed under section 144 of CrPC and refrain from acts of violence in the future.
