Shiv Sena demands action in scribe assault case

Condemning in the strongest term the assault of Thoubal correspondent of Naharolgi Thoudang daily Elangbam Rameshwor by unknown persons in relation with the forthcoming election, Shiv Sena Manipur unit has demanded the government to arrest those involved in the assault.
Addressing a press meet at the party office here on Monday, Shiv Sena state president M Tombi demanded suitable action against the assailants while appealing to all political parties, intending candidates and their workers.to refrain from resorting to violent activities, and providing drugs and intoxicants to youth in order to secure their votes.
He urged all to promote a culture of free and fair election, and not to target journalists.
No position is required to serve the public and he has been doing the same for years without being an MLA, Tombi said, adding that the intending candidates should allow the public to choose their candidate freely in order to bring about a good government.
He further said that Shiv Sena is preparing to put up 15 candidates in the forthcoming assembly election and some of them are in hill ACs.
An eight-member team of the party's state unit recently went to Mumbai and met party leaders Anil Desai and Subhas Desai.
The national leaders have approved 12 candidates, he revealed while affirming that the party is all set for the election.
It would be better if the election is held in a single phase, Tombi also opined.
