Imphal, March 25, 2013:
Villagers of Lamlanghupi village today staged a sit-in-protest at Bishnupur Bazar against Government's proposal of setting up a rehabilitation centre for surrendered underground cadres at the village.
The protest was staged under the banner of Women Sub-Committee Against the Proposal of Rehab Centre for Surrenderees at Lamlanghupi.
According to the protesters, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam visited the VDF Post at Lamlanghupi Chothe village of Bishnupur district on March 1 last to survey the land for opening a rehabilitation centre for surrendered underground cadres.
Sensing fear for disturbing peaceful environment of the village, a public meeting held on March 8 at the village rejected the plan and urged the Government not to set up the rehabilitation centre at the village.
Copies of resolution of the said meeting were intimated to Chief Minister O Ibobi, Minister Govindas Konthoujam and MLA Manga Vaiphei, they said.
As the Government has failed to give any positive reply on the resolution, the sit-in-protest was staged at Bishnupur, they added.
