It is the determination and will power what one needs to lead a successful life, said Athokpam Phairenjao, a mushroom farmer from Langdum Mayai Leikai, who has climbed the ladder of success through his relentless efforts.
Speaking to Hueiyen Lanpao, Phairenjao said that he left schooling after class VIII and started lending helping hand to his parents in looking after the needs of the family.
He used to repair TV sets, radio, tape recorded and other electronic appliances.
He was also worked as mason in his efforts to support his family besides working as a Pena artiste.
Born to late Athokpam Yaima of Langdum Mayai Leikai, 43 years old Phairenjao married Kangabam Ningol Tombi in 1997 and they have two sons and one daughter today.
After his marriage, Phairenjao faced many difficulties in maintaining his family and started mushroom farming with the help of some friends.
By cultivating 300 to 500 mushroom tubes can earn an amount of Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000, he disclosed.
As mushroom is very sensitive to heat and insects, it needs special care during the plantation and the production rate differs from summer to winter, he explained.
With a successful career in mushroom farming for the last four years, Phairenjao now has three or four workers working under him and he pays them a daily wages of Rs 110 each.
