Easy to quit INC, hard to return: MPCC chief warns

Imphal, July 20 2011: Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Gaikhangam has categorically stated that it is easier to leave the Congress party than try to make a comeback into the national political organisation.

Speaking at a reception programme of three Independent members elected to the Chandel Autonomous District Council to the Indian National Congress at Imphal Hotel today, the state Congress chief asserted that there are many former Congress MLAs who disregarding the party principle abandoned the organisation only to intimate their desire for returning to the party fold.

Maintaining that welcoming defectors entails a lengthy procedure including approval of the AICC authorities, Gaikhangam said those who left Congress party in haste or due to inability of adhering to ethics of the organisation put themselves into perilous situation.

He reminded every member of the Congress that returning to the party fold is not an easy task.

Extending warm welcome to the three independent members of Chandel ADC on their joining to the Indian national Congress, Gaikhangam pointed out that the Congress party is enjoying absolute majority in all the six ADCs.

Further informing that in all 17 members of different ADCs have recently joined the Congress party, he described the development as 'home coming' and called upon every members to work with sincerity and dedication in order to win confidence of the common people.

Citing principle of religious tolerance and accommodating various community of the Congress party as the hallmark on which the party has managed to strengthen the organisation at the grassroots level, Gaikhangam also appealed to every party members to work for all round development of the State.

Meanwhile, the three independent members of Chandel ADC who were formally welcomed to the INC along with the felicitation function hosted by chandel district Congress Committee included DM Korungthang Maring of Khoibu ADC constituency, DP Thomas Maring of Kangoi constituency and LR Kothil Maring of Rilram constituency.

Speaking at the occasion, Chandel ADC Chairman Lhukhosei Zou conveyed that strength of the Congress in the 26-member ADC has risen to 24 with the fresh joining of the three.

former Minister DK Korungthang, who also addressed the gathering, said inspite of chandel ADC office being located in Imphal due to certain unavoidable circumstance activities should be initiated at the grassroots level of chandel district.

MPCC general secretary Victor Keishing said in his address that inspite of no congress representative from chandel and Ukhrul districts in the State Legislative assembly changes is imminent in both the districts after the next assembly elections as Congress party is enjoying absolute majority in ADCs of the two districts.

Among others Chandel DCC president NS Mephul also attended the function.
