CM inaugurates NSA hostel, Indoor Hall

Chief Minister O Ibobi today inaugurated the Boys' Hostel, Girls' Hostel, Sports Hostel and Indoor Hall of the National Sports Academy at Khuman Lampak in a state function.
Speaking on the occasion, CM Ibobi said that the National Sports Academy is a result of the tremendous showcase of the sportspersons of the state who have excelled in many national and international events bringing fame and laurels to the state and country.
Pleased with the outstanding performances of the state's sportspersons and realizing the need of setting up an academy at the national level to produce more successful sportspersons in every sports discipline in the sports enthusiastic state, Prime Minister Manmohan during his state visit in 2004 assured to set up the academy under the PM package.
As per the assurance of the Prime Minister, the construction of the academy began in 2004 with a sanction of ' 18.43 crore by Ministry of DoNER under Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR).
Undue waste of time was experienced in submitting the Detail Project Report and tender process, and the construction process could not be completed in time.
The newly inaugurated hostels have a total intake capacity of 300 students and there are 159 students both boys and girls in the academy at present, he mentioned.
Ibobi said that the academy was set up with a purpose to mould the sports enthusiast youths of the state and make them successful sportspersons in the international level.
The sports academy is offering standard courses in Archery, Boxing, Judo, Taekwondo, Wrestling and Weightlifting.
Even though the hostels inaugurated today are not of international standards, they are far better than many national academies in the country.
Urging the sportspersons to do well in their academic study as well as in sports, Ibobi said that they should not ignore their studies while pursuing their career in sports.
He also told them that the academy will provide its students with standard facilities in order to ensure them success in their career.
Reminding the fame of the state as a power house of sports in the country, Ibobi urged the teachers, management Committee of the academy and the parents of students to pay utmost attention and care while guiding them in the field of sports to increase the fame of the state in the international arena.
He also mentioned that Manipur has 50 percent share of the total number of students while the remaining 50 percent is reserved for students from other states of the country.
However, if the reserved share of other states remains unoccupied, state players might be allowed to fill in the vacant seats, he highlighted.
Youth Affairs & Sports Minister DD Thaisii, IFCD Minister N Biren, Speaker Manipur Legislative Assembly I Hemochandra, MLA Dr Ng Bijoy, MLA E Suraj, Deputy Speaker Th Lokeshore, MLA Surchandra and Commissioner Arts & Culture, RK Nimai were among others who attended the function as presidium members.
YAS Minister DD Thaisii said that sports have become and important resource of the state.
People of the state are joyous when sportspersons of the state win medals in various national and international events.
Ensuring assistance from the government's side, he urged the sportspersons to put maximum efforts in their career.
