Moreh, July 20 2011:
Normal life and business activities in Moreh town were badly affected on the first day of the 48-hour bandh jointly called by Border Trade and Chamber of Commerce and Tamil Sangam, Moreh today.
The bandh, which came into effect from 6 am today, was clamped in protest against the arrest of President of the two bodies, V Shekhar.
It may be mentioned that V Shekhar was arrested at Chennai airport by Chattisgarh Police on July 14 last in connection with the murder of his bussiness associate Rajesh Dagar.
He has been charged with drug smuggling as well.
The border town wore a deserted look as all shops including those under Border Trade and Chamber of Commerce remained closed and autorickshaws were off the road after 11 am.
Although, shops at neighbouring Namphalong market remained open the whole day, there were very few shoppers.

Maintaining that allegations levelled against V Sekhar are false and baseless, the body also demanded the immediate and unconditional release of its President.
It also urged the general public not to be misled with these 'false' allegations and instead to co-operate with the stir.
