Imphal, October 17 2016:
Many key issues of the State were highlighted and deliberated at a National executive meeting of CPI, according to the party's National executive member and State secretary Dr M Nara.
Speaking to media persons at Irawat Bhavan here this afternoon, Dr Nara said that a National executive meeting of CPI was held at Ajoy Bhavan, New Delhi on October 15 and 16 .
The executive meeting deliberated on Indo-Pak relations, the situation prevailing in Jammu and Kashmir and some key issues of Manipur.
The reservation row in Manipur University, the deplorable condition of Imphal-Jiribam highway, the Framework Agreement signed between NSCN-IM and the Narendra Modi Government and the popular demand for ILPS or a similar mechanism were some of the issues pertaining to Manipur which were discussed at the CPI executive meeting.
Dr Nara opined that absence of regular VC and Registrar was responsible for the chaotic situation prevailing inside MU campus.
The arson which gutted MU recreation hall and some other structures severely vitiated the university's academic atmosphere but neither the Central Government nor the State Government have bothered to intervene into the issue.
Nonetheless, the CPI National executive council meeting resolved that a competent agency should investigate the issue and proper academic atmosphere should be restored in MU at the earliest.
As for the pathetic condition of Imphal-Jiribam highway, Dr Nara blamed the Central Government.
Despite repeated assurances given by the Narendra Modi Government, the highway has improved very little.
He then urged the Central Government to make the highway worthy for heavy vehicles as soon as possible.
The executive meeting also resolved the Ministry of Home Affairs should convene meetings with all stake holders and work to bring a solution regarding the ILPS issue.
As resolved at the executive council meeting, Dr Nara demanded that the details of the Framework Agreement signed by Government of India and NSCN-IM should be divulged and AFSPA 1958 should be repealed from Manipur.
