Gold biscuits seized

Imphal, October 17 2016:
Acting on a specific information, a team of Anti-Smuggling Unit from Customs Division, Imphal, headed by its Superintendent Giansing Panmei, busted a gold smuggling racket today at around 6.30 am near North AOC, Imphal, a statement informed.
In course of the action, 50 gold biscuits believed to be of Myanmar origin weighing about 8.3 kgs were seized from the possession two persons hailing from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh as they were about to leave for Dimapur on a Tata Winger.
The duo have been sent to judicial custody for further investigation.
The value of the seized gold biscuits is estimated at Rs 2.46 crore.
In a separate incident, the Customs Unit of LGBIA (Guwahati airport) headed by JND Mahanta, Superitendent, detected 116 packages of readymade foreign origin garments, shoes and remote controlled CCTV camera that are believed to be smuggled from Myanmar in a New Delhi bound domestic flight at Guwahati airport on October 16 .
The goods were offloaded at the airport.
