Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillon Apunba Lup (MEELAL) has announced a total ban on the use of 'alien' words in Manipuri films with effect from today.
Speaking at a press conference held at Manipur Press Club, MEELAL president S Tomba urged the Manipuri film fraternity not to include any 'alien' word or language in the dialogues and songs of Manipuri films.
In this connection, MEELAL held a joint meeting of film directors, producers and song lyricists at Manipur Press Club today.
The meeting resolved to request the script writers and lyricists to avoid using 'alien' words and language.
MEELAL president S Tomba, All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) president W Shamjai, JCILPS convenor Ibotombi Khuman and Esei Mayek Eba Lup president MK Jit were the presidium members of the meeting.
Saying that Shumang Leela groups have also agreed not to use 'alien' words in their plays, S Tomba urged the general public to replace the 'alien' words with suitable Manipuri words in ritual hymns as well.
Maintaining that all the 'alien' words have been omitted in the text books of Class IX and X, Tomba said that necessary steps are being taken for the books of Class I as well.
Urging the general public to inscribe the registration numbers of vehicles in Meetei script without disturbing the high security registration number plates from 2015, Tomba said that MEELAL would carry out a drive in this connection from next year.
