Firing decried

Panic gripped the locals of Tera Bazar and surrounding areas as a Jemadar and another personnel of 2nd Manipur Rifles resorted to indiscriminate firing at around 11.30 last night.
Strongly decrying the conduct of the security personnel, Tera locals today staged a sit-in-protest at their locality.
Speaking to reporters, one local, who was taking part in the protest, said that the drunken MR men identified as T Ginlianmang and Thangjahao Baite shouted abusive words and fired about 10 rounds at regular intervals for around one hour.
The man said that the MR personnel shouted and asked anybody who was capable of facing them to come out.
He further said that one of the bullets hit a culvert at Tera bazar.
Condemning the incident, a woman said that the incident triggered panic and fear amongst the locals of Tera bazar and surrounding areas.
She said that it was that it was deplorable that security personnel who were deployed there for the security of the residents should indulge in such acts.
Regarding the incident, they had met the Assistant Commandant of 2nd Manipur Rifles to demand befitting action against the two personnel, she added.
Acting swiftly on the complaint of the people, the CO of 2 Manpur Rifles has issued an order placing the two personnel under suspension with immediate effect.
During the suspension period, the two have been ordered not to leave their headquarters without permission from the competent authority.
They are entitled to subsistence allowances as admissible under the rule.
