Imphal, November 01 2014 :
The All Manipur Elementary School Teachers' Association (AMESTA) has decided to launch a cease work strike in all Government schools shortly.
Speaking to media persons at their Khoyathong office today, AMESTA general secretary Ch Santakumar said that they were compelled to go in for the cease work as the State Government has paid no attention even though the school teachers undertook relay hunger strike since October 13 on the demands of giving requisite qualification scale to 1611 teachers and regularization of higher scale.
However, a final decision would be adopted at a general body meeting of AMESTA scheduled on November 3 at Keishampat Lairembi community hall, Santakumar said.
The teachers are constrained to undertake the cease work strike on account of the systematic denial of fundamental rights including denial of pension after retirement.
"In case the Government fails to address the grievances of teachers even after the cease work strike, we are prepared to fast unto death", he conveyed.
AMESTA vice-president A Keilani Devi said that Education Department is embroiled in the maximum number of problems as compared to other departments.
Education Department is a department run by some bureaucrats at their whims.
The Chief Minister and the Education Minister need to pay extra attention so as to rein in the domineering bureaucrats and streamline the department, Keilani added.
