Imphal, November 01 2014 :
The Kuki Organisation for Human Rights (KOHR) has reminded RN Ravi, Government interlocutor for NSCN-IM talks, to understand the unchanging and clear stance of the Kuki Inpi (traditional Govt) to first settle the heinous crimes committed by the NSCN-IM in a proper Court of law before any kind of agreement is reached with the Naga militant group.
In a memorandum to the interlocutor, KOHR said the crimes committed by the NSCN-IM regarding the killing of 905 Kukis, uprooting of 360 villages and rendering one lakh Kukis homeless should be settled in a proper Court of law of the country to demonstrate that law and order is exercised by the Govt of India.
"Otherwise, the possible agreement will damage the image of India and will become an epicentre of worse violence in the whole of North East India," it said.
KOHR has submitted the memorandum in the backdrop of the report carried by this paper in its Oct 27 edition and other papers with the headline ' Naga peace talks to be expedited' .
During a meeting on July 21, 2001 at Delhi, the BJP Govt led by Atal Behari Vajpayee gave verbal assurance to promptly take appropriate action through proper Court of law in the presence of the then Union Home Minister LK Advani and other dignitaries including Padmanabhaiah, the then Government interlocutor in the talks with the NSCN-IM.
Unfortunately, the then BJP Govt was voted out of power in the subsequent Parliament election and nothing could have been done as promised, the KOHR memorandum signed by its chairman T Lunkim pointed out.
"We are confident that the present BJP Govt would fulfil that 'promise' through your able guidance for justice and peace in the country by first settling the heinous crimes committed against the innocent Kukis by NSCN-IM to keep up the good image of the country and demonstrate that the Government of India Govt properly exercises law and order for ushering in justice and peace for all," it added.
