Wildlife Meat Seller arrested at Ccpur

A stall owner in Churachandpur New Bazaar has been allegedly selling porcupine and wild beer meat before the Sangai Festival in Manipur.
The Churachandpur District Forest officer M Tombing told reporters in Churachandpur that the accused individual at New bazaar has been arrested under Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972 on the basis of alleged sale of wildlife products.
The accused was produced before the District Sessions Court of Churachandpur.
Hearing of the case will continue tomorrow as the accused has been detained in judicial custody.
The seller of the said meat has been identified as Ngaknu wife of Letpu Haokip of Theigotang village, in Singngat Sub-division of Churachandpur district.
The State Forest department has taken up necessary steps after the local dailies published a news item regarding the warning of PFA Manipur on sale of Wildlife meat at the food court of the upcoming festival today.
Members of People for Animals (PFA) Thoubal on November 1, procured the meat claimed by the stall runners as that of porcupine and wild boar for documentary evidences, after they have found the said stall selling the wildlife meat (Rs 100 per Kg) and openly drawing in the crowd.
