Imphal, April 24 2022:
Khurai Nandeibam Leikai Pradhan Y Chitra has stated that people are losing their faith in the panchayat due to the administration's failure to equip the Gram Panchayat with additional powers.
The statement was made by Y Chitra during the National Panchayati Raj Day observance held at SSC Community Hall in Khurai Nandeibam Leikai today.
Addressing the gathering, the Pradhan continued to say that local elected representatives are unable to carry out any worthwhile tasks as a result of the government's failure to implement the three tier system in Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI) .
She stressed on the government's ineffectiveness in delegating powers to the PRIs and added that this has caused other department officials to be indifferent to the demands or appeals of the PRIs.
As a result, the documents for various health and housing schemes submitted to the relevant departments through the local elected representatives remain stacked in the offices.
This has led the people to lose their faith in their local representatives, she maintained.
She asserted that it is high time for the government to implement the three tier system and give additional powers to the PRIs.
The Pradhan also appealed to the relevant authorities to take up appropriate action in favour of the various people from Nandeibam GP who have submitted their documents to become beneficiaries for housing loans.
Separately, a Gram Sabha was also conducted in observance of National Panchayati Raj Day at Pheijaleitong Community Hall under Thongju AC today.
The Sabha was attended by Bashikhong Zilla Parishad Member Jasowanta Chirom and Pradhan Thongju Part II Gram Panchayat Nameirakpam Kanon Chanu as chief guest and president of the function.
As a part of the event, maintenance tools were handed over to 9 youth clubs and 3 VLFs.
Koiroulakpa VLF, Thongjulakpa VLF and Yumjao Lairembi VLF expressed their gratitude towards the ZP Member, Pradhan, Up-Pradhan and Gram Sabha Members by presenting them with simple gifts.
Meanwhile Nameirakpam Chingkhei spoke at length about how the Panchayati system came into practice.
