Imphal, April 19 2015 :
Following the destruction of a sacred ritual site known as 'Panthong Ngakpa', constructed at the entrance of Kinthanlong (Ramji Kabui village) by some locals of Sagolband Loukham Leirak on April 15, village authority functionaries of Ramji village have urged all concerned people to restrain from unwanted activities in future.
Speaking to media persons in a press conference held at Ramji village, secretary of Thoubu (village authority) Kamei Manisana said that the construction work of the sacred ritual site started inside the boundary of the village on April 3 .
But on that day, locals of Sagolband Loukham Leirak allegedly objected the construction works, he said.
Later after a series of meetings, both sides reached an agreement to restrain from such disruptive actions, Manisana added.
On April 15, locals of Sagolband Loukham Leirak destroyed the ritual site stating that some people had pelted stones on them, Manisana said.
He added that the area where the ritual site was constructed falls inside the boundary of Ramji village and the village authority has all the relevant documents.
Village chief Ganguilung Gangmei said that such destructive activities should not be encouraged at all.
Moreover, mob justice must be avoided as it could spew hatred amongst various communities of Manipur.
He said that Manipur is home to different communities and people must learn to live together with love and respect the customary laws and activities of other communities.
