Imphal, April 19 2015 :
The seven Catholic schools which had been locked out for 13 days are likely to be reopened from Monday morning.
Meanwhile Chief Minister Okram Ibobi stalled for time by telling officials and representatives of the Catholic Education Society Manipur (CESM) that a cabinet meeting will be held on Tuesday to chalk out the future course of action.
A joint meeting of the functionaries of the Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur and the restive parents of over 17,000 students of these seven schools was held on Sunday.
An unanimous resolution was taken to reopen the schools from Monday.
Since the drivers of schools vans do not want to stick out their necks as yet, it was agreed that the parents shall ferry the students to the schools and back to home in their private vehicles.
Nine representatives of the CESM, the education minister Okendra, MLA Th Shyamkumar, Education Commissioner P Vaiphei and others attended the meeting in the office of the chief minister on Saturday night.
In view of infirm and wobbly stance of the Government on the burning issue the parents and DESAM firmed up to reopen the schools from Monday.
The decision to reopen the Catholic schools was formally announced on Sunday by the DESAM President M Angamba.
He also appealed to the KCP (MC) group to revoke the indefinite ban order imposed on the schools.
He also said that it is incumbent on the Manipur government to take up all necessary actions to ensure a smooth functioning of the schools.
