Imphal, April 19 2015 :
Lending a helping hand to the family of Irengbam Ongbi Purnimashi, who had died recently at 1st MR Ground while waiting her turn to collect pension money, the State JD (U) gave Rs 4,800 to the next of kin on Sunday.
Manipur JD (U) President M Tombi and Secretary General Lien Gangte visited the home of late Purnimashi at Khagempalli Pankha Ningom Leirak in Imphal West and handed the amount to her family.
Tombi blamed the Social Welfare Department for the death of old age pensioner Purnimashi and sought action against the Director and other officials of the department in connection with the tragic incident.
Commenting on the two-day Manipur visit by BJP National President Amit Shah from April 18 to 19, the State JD (U) chief belittled the trip.
Tombi said the BJP chief did not utter a single word on major issues confronting the State in his speech delivered during a public rally held at Hao Ground here.
Amit Shah also failed to comment on the controversial Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA).
He said that the BJP leader forgot all key issues of the State but was only trying to woo voters for the ensuing Autonomous District Council (ADC) polls.
The BJP has not been able to implement its promises on development front, he alleged.
Party Secretary General Lien Gangte announced that JD (U) will field its candidates for the upcoming ADC polls to be held on June 1 .
