Promising young news editor of DDK Imphal, Robert J Baite has passed away at Shija Hospitals, Langol where he was treated for head injury, he sustained some time back, yesterday at 4.30 pm.
He was 35, and is survived by his wife and two sons (one four year old and another just nine months old) .
A large number of people paid last respects to the mortal remains of the departed journalist at his official quarter on the campus of DDK, Imphal station at Porompat this morning.
Later his body was taken in a cortege to the burial ground located at Chingmeirong where the funeral was held.
Robert Baite was admitted to JN Hospital on May 9 due to headache and vomiting.
He was referred to Shija Hospitals next morning where he was operated on.
He breathed his last yesterday evening.
He graduated from DM College of Arts and had studied Mass Communication at Indian Institution of Mass Communication in New Delhi.
He was editor of Horizon during school time and the Meridian during college period.
He had also worked as a reporter at the Eastern Herald Tribune in 1995, and as a Sub-Editor at Matamgee Yakairol (English edition).
He was also a guest columnist in Imphal Free Press and Sangai Express.
He worked as a Development Officer for LIC, Aizawl for two years before he joined the DDK Imphal as the Assistant News Editor in 2005.In 2006, he became the News Editor.
The editors and news staff of the three editions of Hueiyen Lanpao have condoled the untimely demise of the young promosing journalist, and prayed for his soul to rest in peace in the heavenly abode.
Meanwhile, the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union has also condoled the death of Robert J Baite at a meeting of the standing comitttee of the Union held at Manipur Press Club today.
The meeting observed a two minute silence in honour of the departed soul.
Those who attended the meeting remarked that his death would leave a vacuum in the journalist-community that can not be filled up again.
The AMWJU also conveyed condolence to the bereaved family of the deceased.
