Imphal, May 12 2010:
A ferocious windstorm that swept in some parts of Thoubal district this morning caused injuries to four students besides damaging two schools.
Another spell of windstorm in the afternoon did extensive damages to houses and other structures in Khongjom area.
The windstorm tore down the walls and blew away tin roofs of Oxford English School located at Tentha Khongban at about 10 am.
As the wall fell over, three students sustained injuries.
The injured students have been identified as Elangbam Bishorjit (class VII) of Tentha Marongbam, Laimujam Uma (class X) of Tentha Tambhal Chingya and Naorem Khomeiton (class V) .
Class IX student Preety staying in the boarding of Elite School at Tentha Tuwaband also sustained injuries.
According to a member of the Tentha Khongban Welfare Association, the windstorm also damaged many houses of Tentha Khongban besides ravaging vegetable farms.
In similar windstorm caused extensive damages to many houses in Khongjom area besides uprooting and snapping trees.
It also blew away and devastated the roof of the northern building of Bimal Academy at Khongjom Sapam Mayai Leikai.
The school's boarding located behind the school building was also damaged.
