Thirteen vehicles hijacked by suspected armed militants last night have been released after robbing rice and other grocery items worth lakhs of rupees together today morning, a police report said.
The 13 vehicles, six Tata Sumos and seven maruti vans were hijacked by the armed militants on their way to Imphal from Moreh, the border town last night, at about 7.40 pm from Thamnapokpi area on the Imphal-Moreh section of the NH-39 under Pallel police station of Chandel district.
A police report said that the hijackers left behind the passenger on the board the vehicles and taken away the vehicles with the load carried by the vehicles.
Most of the vehicles were carrying rice and other grocery items.
The vehicles were released today morning after off-loaded all the goods items, police said adding that the drivers reported to the police that the hijackers released them at Komlathabi village, some 10 kilometer away from the police station.
No excessive meted out to the drivers except to offload the goods at an interior village, police said quoting the statements given by the drivers after releasing the vehicles.
The drivers could identify to which outfit the armed group belongs.
