Bordermen bask in golden jubilee celebration

On completion of its 49th years of glorious service to the nation, Border Security Force (BSF) celebrated its golden jubilee today.
The force was raised on December 1, 1965 .
To celebrate this auspicious occasion, Headquarters BSF Frontier Mizoram & Cachar, Masimpur (Silchar) organized various programmes including blood donation camp, marathon race, cycle safari, display of various weapons, latest surveillance/ Border Security Force (BSF) communication equipment which are in use by the BSF for effective management of border, according to a BSF release.
Dinesh Kumar Upadhyaya, Inspector General, Frontier HQ BSF Mizoram & Cachar graced the occasion with his benign presence as chief guest at DSA ground, Silchar.
He inaugurated the Golden Jubilee celebration programmes of the elite force in the presence of senior officers and other officials along with their families, district civil and police authorities and a large numbers of civil public.
Besides, as a goodwill gesture and to strengthen the relationship between the force and civil public, a friendly cricket match was played between DC Eleven and BSF Eleven at DSA Ground, Silchar.
The marathon race was flagged off on Nov 30 from BSF Campus Masimpur and ended at DSA Ground Silchar, in which 42 persons participated.
The colourful display of BSF Brass & Jazz Band was enthusiastically enjoyed by the general public.
Besides, establishment of various BSF stalls, Audio/ Visual display regarding history of BSF and its various facets were of great attraction to the viewers, it said.
Blood donation camp was also organized in which three DIGs, 10 officers, 58 sub-ordinate officers and other ranks of BSF and one civilian donated blood.
A photo gallery was displayed depicting various operational achievements, Civic Action Programme for the border populations and other welfare activities of the jawans.
The rationale behind organizing the Golden Jubilee celebration was to spread awareness among the public about the multifaceted contributions made by the BSF in maintaining sanctity of the international boundary during its 50th year of glorious service to the nation, it said.
Chief guest Dinesh Kumar Upadhyaya, Inspector General, BSF M&C Ftr conveyed good wishes to all the BSF members and their families on the occasion of BSF Golden Jubilee.
He congratulated all the participants who took part in various events and distributed prizes.
Dinesh Kumar Upadhyaya also interacted with the media persons.
He stated that BSF is very effectively manning the border round the clock and there is no report of infiltration of any kind in Mizoram and Cachar border.
Troops are doing their duty in a professional manner and all types of latest gadgets are in use as a force multiplier to ensure effective border management.
With regard to erecting of border fence, the IG stated that there are only few stretches where fence could not be erected due to various reasons.
He pointed out that a stretch of around 3.5 kms gap in the area of responsibility of BSF BOP Steamergaht, fence could not be erected due to habitation right upto the bank of river Kushiayara ie international border of Karimganj town.
However, the IG stated that BSF is in touch with the district administration so that single row fencing is erected at the earliest possible.
