IM hijack FCI rice; attempt to seize machine laden truck foiled

Imphal, December 01 2014 :
Suspected cadres of NSCN (IM) reportedly hijacked a truck loaded with 315 bags of FCI rice from Khongnem along National Highway-2 under Senapati Police Station and later abandoned the truck after unloading all the rice bags on November 25 at around 11 am.
Police sources said the FCI rice-loaded truck bearing registration no AS 16C-9461 was coming from Golaghat, Assam and heading towards Imphal when some armed cadres of the outfit forcibly stopped it at Khongnem and took into custody driver and handyman of the vehicle.
The vehicle was taken away by the cadres and later handed over to its driver and handyman after unloading all the rice bags from the vehicle.
Subsequent upon the hijacking of the FCI rice, a complaint was filed to Senapati Police Station.
A massive hunt is being launched in different parts of the district to trace the hijacked FCI rice but police have not able to locate it so far.
Meanwhile, suspected armed cadres of NSCN (IM) attempted to hijack a truck carrying turbine machine for National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) from near Bakho village under Senapati Police Station on November 22 around 2 pm.
However, the attempt was foiled after police swung into action on hearing the news.
Upon the arrival of police, the cadres left the place abandoning the vehicle.
The truck bearing registration no AS16C-9046 carrying turbine machine for NHPC was coming from Jorhat, Assam and heading towards Imphal when some armed cadres of NSCN (IM) tried to whisk it away forcibly.
Later, the vehicle was escorted by police up to Imphal.
