Imphal, December 01 2014 :
JMIC Imphal East today held a round of hearing on the charge-sheet submitted by police against Irom Chanu Sharmila today.
It may be mentioned that police framed charges under Section 309 IPC (attempt to commit suicide) against the anti-AFSPA campaigner on November 14 last.
The last charge sheet hearing was deferred as Sharmila's counsel pleaded the Court to give some more time.
Sharmila was brought from the security ward of JNIMS hospital and produced before the Court today.
After perusing the arguments of both the defence and prosecution counsels, the Court later fixed December 22 as the date of the next charge hearing.
Sharmila has been repeatedly denying the charge of attempting to commit suicide levelled against her.
She told the media that she has been simply refusing to eat or drink anything demanding repeal of AFSPA.
On August 19 last, the Court acquitted Sharmila from the same charge levelled by police.
However, as she continued her hunger strike after she walked free from the security ward of JNIMS hospital, Sharmila was again rearrested on August 22.Since then, she has been appearing in the Court after every two weeks.
On November 14 last, police again framed the charge of attempting to commit suicide against her.
