Imphal, December 01 2014 :
All Manipur Tribal Union (AMTU) submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Manipur on Sunday seeking solution to the plight of the people from Northeast who are frequently discriminated, assaulted and murdered in New Delhi and other metro cities.
In the memorandum to the Prime Minister, AMTU said people of Northeast are faithful to the country with deep rooted allegiance and people from the region had fought gallantly against common enemies, mainly China and Pakistan during which Assam Regiment, Naga Regiment and other Northeast soldiers laid their precious life and maimed while defending the country.
Many NE Regimental soldiers are also currently posted at the enemy fronts leaving behind their near and dear ones at home, it said.
However, in peaceful Indian metros, especially Delhi and Gurgaon, people from Northeast are being treated as 'street dogs,' the memorandum said, adding that for defending the country, skill and bravery reins "our blood stream" as Mongoloids.
The diabolic trend must be stopped at once to uphold the unique Indian cultural mosaic, sanctity and secularism, it said.
Experts should be used to find out the culprits' motive behind the attacks on people from NE and Fast Track legal hearings should be conducted without tempering the evidences to ensure severe punishment is given to the guilty so that such criminals are not left on the loose in future, the memorandum to Modi suggested.
It also suggested deploying one battalion of security forces each from the Northeast states in Delhi and Gurgaon as an immediate security measure instead of waiting for recruitment of people from the region in Delhi Police, which may take time.
