Taphou Kuki, December 01 2014 :
Since last Friday morning after a bomb was reportedly placed at DC office complex, fear has gripped the mindset of general public and office staff which show a low turnout at the District Administrative complex.
35 Assam Rifles and Senapati Police have cordoned off and are guarding the office block day and night since Friday restricting entry of public and office staff.
Fortunately, though delayed for two days without any report of explosion or human casualty, the highly improvised explosive device (IED) was safely defused and denoted at a location near 9th MR firing range Kuki Taphou.
A team of Bomb experts from Manipur police Imphal arrived at the spot were taken by surprise with the presence of the high amount of explosives and remote controlled device which was measuring upto 1kg and 200gm.A police team led by SDPO along with bomb disposal squad assisted by 35 AR officials safely detonated the bomb at 1:30 noon.
Expressing serious concern over the placing of IED bomb at public office like DC office, civil bodies including Naga People's Organization (NPO) and Senapati District Student's Association (SDSA) has condemned the act as an act of cowardice and anti-people.
The apex bodies in a statement vocally spelled out that, the people of the district will not tolerate such destructive role of any revolutionary group attempting to disturb the serenity of the public and attempting to destroy the most important public office like DC office.
It also warned that, any anti-people activities like disturbing the festive peaceful environment or threatening public or offices is unacceptable from any group or person.
In the midst of tireless efforts of civil bodies to systemize the government offices to be regular & people's friendly in their office, the recent threat and attempt to cause harm is condemned by all.
Any issue related to individual or group should have been sorted out with mutual negotiation and talks rather than targeting public office or general, it advised.
Meanwhile, the Tribe Hohos of NPO and local bodies including Senapati Disable People's Association, Manipur (SDPAM), Senapati Karong Area Women's Welfare Association (SKAWWA) and Karong Senapati Town Committee (KSTC) have also strongly protested such act of harming public by any armed group or organization.
Targeting public office and the people for vested individual interest is not our Naga culture and not acceptable to any society, it stated.
It may be noted that, on Friday morning armed group MNPF has claimed responsibility of placing the bomb at DC office complex toilet.
The group has defended the act claiming that, its monetary request was not met even after repeated information to the concerned person.
Sending the presence of bomb through sms, the 35AR under 59th Mtn.
brigade had conducted sweeping of the main office with IED detector and sniffer dogs but could not found anything.
Later on Saturday afternoon, Senapati police found the bomb at a locked toilet.
However, the bomb could not be defused as bomb experts are engaged with Sunday's PM Modi visit to Imphal.
By late afternoon today, the experts defused and detonated the bomb at a safe site.
Meanwhile, All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) in a statement has strongly condemned the cowardly planting of a bomb by the MNPF in the Deputy Commissioner office complex, Senapati on November 29 in pursuance of monetary demand.
Such acts are alien to Naga culture and way of lie.
We are, however, not surprised as these groups committing such act are known for their notorious and nefarious indulgence in everything that is unbecoming of "revolutionaries", it said.
Deliberately targeting Naga areas cannot be seen in isolation but should be understood within the larger context of the Naga people's support and advocacy for the Indo-Naga peace and also the aspiration of the Nagas in Manipur for an Alternative Arrangement, added the release.
ANSAM also stated that such act will not deter the Naga people but will instead strengthen its resolve for political aspiration.
