Imphal, March 28 2016: Suspected militants triggered a blast at the residence of CE of IFCD yesterday while two cases of unidentified miscreants placing bombs at the residence of two individuals were reported during the five-day long Yaoshang gala.

Suspected militants triggered a powerful blast suspected to be an IED at the residential gate of Chief Engineer of IFCD Gurumayum Robindro Sharma located at Uripok Bachaspati Leikai under Imphal PS at around 7.15 pm yesterday.

The blast occurred inside a drain located on the northern side of Robindro's residential gate right under the nose of the security personnel deployed at his residence.

Robindro Sharma was not present at his residence when the blast occurred.

He reached home some 30 minutes after the blast, according to reports.

Sources said that Robindro Sharma along with other officials of Irrigation and Flood Control Department went on an official tour yesterday.

Soon after the blast, a large number of police personnel led by Additional SP (Operation) of Imphal West district police Th Vikramjit and Additional SP (Law and Order) S Ibomcha rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.

A case has been taken up by Imphal PS.

Meanwhile, an IED was found planted at the gate of one special contractor Thokchom Gojendro (40) located at Kiyamgei Maning Leikai under Irilbung Police Station on March 23 at around 9.40 pm.

Thokchom Gojendro is also an FCS agent, sources said.

The IED bomb was retrieved by the State bomb expert team and defused at a nearby paddy field at around 12.30 midnight.

A case has been registered with Irilbung PS.

Again on March 24 at around 10.55 pm, unidentified persons suspected to be militants hurled a hand grenade at the residential compound of special contractor Th Munindro (55) s/o Th Nabakishore of Khongman Zone IV under Irilbung Police Station.

Sources said that no one was injured in the blast but some portions of the wall were damaged.

Irilbung PS registered a case in this connection.
