Imphal, September 27 2014 :
The demand for early implementation of the Revised State AIDS Policy in the State was mainly highlighted on the second day of the fourth conference of Christian Network of Positive Women, Manipur held at Youth Hostel, Khuman Lampak.
Around 100 female PLHIVs took part in a consultative meet held as part of the conference, jointly organised by UTBCI Care Ministry, Centre for Social Development and Women Action for Development under the sponsorship of Manipur AIDS Control Society (MACS) .
MACS Deputy Director Abhiram Mongjam and WAD secretary Sobita Mangshatabam graced today's proceedings as chief guest and president respectively.
MNP+ secretary Udita and Omajit of MACS also attended the conference as guests of honour.
In his speech, Abhiram Mongjam said that the State AIDS Policy, which was framed in 1996, has been revised now.
As such, MACS is putting in efforts to implement the revised policy as soon as possible, he added.
Saying that self stigmatization has more serious impact than the stigma and discrimination given by the society, Abhiram Mongjam exhorted the female PLHIVs to be mentally strong to face these challenges.
Speaking at the occasion, Udita opined that the only care and support provided by the Government to PLHIVs is ART.
She said that PLHIVs need support in other forms as well from the Government.
Sobita Mangshatabam while speaking at the function said that PLHIVs must not lead themselves to the wrong path under the notion that they have nothing to achieve in life.
They must remember that many differently abled persons and rape survivors are leading decent life through self employment, she added.
She added that one must not worry about initial capital but draw inspiration from those entrepreneurs who guided themselves to success after they started their venture with small capitals.
