Imphal, February 24 2017:
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju has blamed the Congress party for the unrest and chaos prevailing in the entire North East region including Manipur.
He was speaking at a flag hoisting ceremony of BJP candidate in Karong AC R Yuh Jonathan Tao held today at the latter's residence at Oinam, Senapati.
While claiming that BJP has not done any injustice to the people of the North East, Rijiju said that Congress party bred all the problems plaguing the North East region.
From Jawaharlal Nehru to Dr Manmohan Singh, the successive Congress Governments at the Centre neglected the North East region for the past 70 years or so.
They never worked to resolve any issue pertaining to the North East.
It was the Congress party which forced the youth of Manipur to take up arms and pushed them to the path of violence.
The creation of new districts purportedly for administrative convenience, the subsequent indefinite economic blockade and the resultant inter-community conflict are all handiworks of Congress party, he charged.
Congress party has been trying to score political mileage by creating a human tragedy in Manipur.
They (Congress) have no moral right to seek another mandate from the people, Rijiju asserted.
Claiming that the Central Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has chalked out a road map for the North East and all problems have been identified, the MoS (Home) appealed to all the militants to give arms and return to normal life.
He called upon all the people of Manipur to seize the historic opportunity and avoid bandhs, blockades and other unwanted incidents making newspaper headlines.
Racial discrimination of people from the North East seen in different parts of India has been considerably contained since the BJP-led NDA came to power at the Centre, he claimed.
As a part of the Central Government's plan to develop Moreh as a key business hub under the Act East Policy, maximum efforts are being invested to complete the construction work of Integrated Check Post by May this year.
The North East will always remain a composite unit because there are many striking similarities, Rijiju remarked.
He further appealed to all the people of Manipur elect BJP to power so as to ensure peace and progress in the State.
Otherwise, Congress would keep the State subjugated with their divisive policy and rampant corruption.
BJP Karong Mandal president S Warsaw, Mahila Morcha National vice-president A Sarda, Kim Gangte, OBC Morcha State president and Senapati in-charge S Liben and former Minister KS Benjamin were also present at the flag hoisting ceremony.
