Imphal, June 13 2020:
With the Government allowing shops in Thangal and Paona Keithels to open from 6 am to 2 pm, people continue to throng the two Keithels to stock their needs and essentials.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, one person who owns a hardware store at Thangal Keithel stated that people who do business in the keithel were also hard hit by the coronavirus outbreak as preventative measure forced shops to close.
As COVID-19 cases continue to rise in the State, we have to be careful and follow safety measures laid down by the State Government and experts to prevent infection of the novel virus, he said adding that shops are allowed to open in Thangal and Paona Keithels on a rotational basis.
Continuing that most shops operators are still feeling the pinch of coronavirus induced lockdown due to restriction of passenger vehicles movement and getting only a day to sell products in a week, he expressed hope that the restriction will be lifted one after another depending upon the performance of the State in combating the pandemic.
Today, shops in Thangal Keithel which deal in hardware, sanitary fittings, tiles and marbles were opened while shops dealing in shoes, sports materials and eyeglasses were opened in Paona Keithel.
However, shops located in the lanes (gallis) of both Paona Bazar and Thangal Bazar were not opened.
