Be alert and prepared to prevent community transmission: Nemcha

Following the spurt in COVID-19 cases in Kangpokpi, Social Welfare Minister Nemcha Kipgen has directed district administration, health authorities and public to take all necessary measures to avoid community spread.
In-charge of Kangpokpi and Senapati districts for COVID-19, Nemcha was speaking at the meeting of all concerned including Deputy Commissioner Somorjit Salam, SP Kangpokpi Hemant Pandey, CMO Kangpokpi Nilakanta Singh, ADM/ADC Kangpokpi, Lalramsang Infimate, AC to DC Kangpokpi, Kaigoulal Kipgen and SDOs at the conference hall of DC office Kangpokpi.
The meeting reviewed the measures and activities being taken up in the district related to the COVID-19 .
The meeting deliberated on the future course of actions and grievances and challenges encountered by the frontline workers and officials.
The meeting also resolved to effectively ban all kinds of intoxicants including alcohol, Talab, Khaini, etc inside quarantine centres.
All authorities concerned should give proper awareness to the inmates to strictly follow the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to COVID-19 .
The meeting stressed the necessity to dispose of waste materials properly to avoid transmission and spread of the virus.
The meeting resolved to approach Shija Hospital for assistance regarding the issue.
Chief Medical Officer, Nilakanta Singh highlighted the importance of 28 days surveillance irrespective of the inmates' COVID-19 tests results so as to prevent community transmission.
He stressed that the inmates should be released only after 28 days surveillance and quarantine at the centres.
He opined that risk of community transmission is high with home quarantine.
Nemcha Kipgen also instructed the District Magistrate and SP Kangpokpi to conduct inspection of the quarantine centres.
Any inmate found breaching the quarantine guidelines should be dealt with appropriate actions.
The Minister also handed over first aid boxes to the District Screening Centre in-charge and CMO Kangpokpi apart providing pork for the quarantine centres today.
Meanwhile, there has been a report of some inmates who have completed 14 days quarantine period but are waiting for test results.
Results of nearly half of the samples sent for COVID-19 tests are awaited.
There are 47 positive cases in the district till filing this report while there is no report of any recovery till now.
