Imphal, April 09 2015 :
Several women organisations of the State have raised strong objections against the Government of India's plan to cede some areas of Manipur in exchange for the parts of Moreh claimed by Myanmar.
Speaking to media persons at the Keishampat office of AMKIL today, Nupi Samaj secretary Th Ramani said that the Government should come up with an unambiguous clarification within two days regarding the proposal of Land Port Authority of India Chairman RS Rawat and MHA Border Management Secretary Sneh Lata Kumar that they have been studying a plan to swap a portion of Manipur's territory in exchange for the portions of Moreh which are claimed by Myanmar.
Representatives of AMKIL, Tammi-Chingmi, ICHAL and All Manipur Women Social Reformation and Development Samaj were also present at the press meet.
Ramani said that they would not tolerate any attempt to cede even an inch of Manipur's territory to Myanmar or any other country.
All the 60 MLAs should step down from their respective posts for their silence against the proposal to cede Manipur's territory against the unfounded claim of Myanmar.
It was quite disturbing that the Government of India was planning to cede some portions of Manipur to Myanmar when there was strong movement for protection of indigenous people, remarked Tammi-Chingmi president S Momon.
Even though both the State Government and the Central Government have been pledging to safeguard the territorial integrity of Manipur, their action always tend to be quite contradictory.
She also appealed to all the people to be very vigilant against any attempt to cede any portion of Manipur.
The Government should not do anything which may invite mass protest movements, she added.
