Imphal, April 09 2015 :
Integrated Check Post (ICP) being constructed by the Ministry of Home Affairs at Moreh would be completed by August next year, according to Border Management Secretary Sneh Lata Kumar.
Briefing media persons at Tulihal Airport before departing for New Delhi today, Sneh Lata Kumar, who arrived here yesterday together with Land Port Authority of India Chairman YS Rawat, remarked that the ICP construction work is making good progress.
The construction work can be completed within the stipulated period, she said.
On being enquired about the border row between India and Myanmar, the Border Management Secretary maintained that she is not the right person to comment on the matter as such things should be dealt by the Ministry of External Affairs.
Sneh Lata Kumar went to Moreh and made a direct assessment of the ICP construction work.
There she was given a detailed presentation by AR officers.
At a meeting held yesterday at the border town with State Government officials, the Border Management Secretary discussed Myanmar's claim over some portions of Moreh and the possibility to cede an alternative site.
But the meeting did not take any concrete decision as such matters are the prerogative of the Ministry of External Affairs, she said.
Taking serious note of the disappearance of some border pillars and the resulting possibility of losing certain border areas to Myanmar, the State Government urged the Centre to re-demarcate the 380 Kms long boundary between Myanmar and Manipur but no response has been forthcoming till date.
Many people have already been complaining that construction of border fence for a length of 10 Kms put large tracts of Manipur's territory on the side of Myanmar.
Moreover, the boundary between Manipur and Myanmar remains vague in Molcham area after the border pillar(s) erected there disappeared.
