B Jayantakumar Sharma no more: creates a void

Bachaspatimayum Jayantakumar Sharma who needs no introduction passed away on Thursday after prolonged illness.
With his death a void was created in Manipur and it will be no easy thing to fill it up.
Hundreds of friends, admirers, acquaintances, relatives thronged his residence in Imphal.
With the permission of the family, his friends and professional associates decided to keep the body in state till Friday.
The mortal remains will be consigned to flames at 8 am.
When he was indisposed, he was admitted to Regional Institute of medical Sciences.
Born on January 14, 1935 he had graduated in 1958 from the Gauhati University.
He had started his career as the assistant teacher in CC High School in 1957.However he joined the All India Radio, Guwahati as a staff artiste on July 9, 1961 where he stayed for a long time.
He was sent to the AIR Imphal as a programme producer in 1972 .
He joined the AIR Kohima as the assistant director in 1989 where he retired on August 31, 1991 .

He had been a writer, journalist and lyricist all along.
He had written 26 All India Radio features, 5 radio plays, 1300 songs many of which were immortalized in ten films.
Besides he had written several articles on music and doing running commentary on Rath Yatra.
He was associated with the Film Forum as a juror and resource person of the SCERT and was the external examiner of Manipur University in art and culture subjects.
During his life time he had written and published 15 books.
Because of his prolific activities it was not surprising that he had bagged various awards totaling 19.He was also the founder member of four musical organisations and a literary group.
He had been the president of the cultural forum, Sangeet Mandal, AMMIK, all Manipur Music Association and Manipur Sahitya Parishad.
He was also a life member of several literary, cultural organisations.
He was also a regular contributor of Hueiyen Lanpao (Manipuri edition) for a long time.
Jayantakumar's demise condoled .
A number of literary organisations have deeply condoled the death of B.Jayantakumar Sharma on Thursday.
In a condolence message Writers Forum Imphal said that he was a prominent personality who had accomplished in writing and other cultural activities.
The condolence meeting was held in the office with Lamabam Biramani in the chair.
Those who were present stood in two minutes' silence for the repose of the departed soul.
Patriotic Writers' Forum also held a condolence meeting in its office with the president Raghu Leishangthem in the chair.
Other senior members were also present.
The meeting briefly recalled the contribution of Jayantakumar in various fields.
The Forum members also stood in two minutes' silence.
Manipuri Literary Society also held at condolence meeting in its office at Old Assembly Road.
The president S.Lanchenba Meitei presided over the function.
They also stood in two minutes; silence for the peaceful rest of the soul.
The Waba Publications Team also expressed deep sense of sorrow and grief at the sad demise of the legendry lyricist and writer Ipu B.Jayentakumar Sharma, who inspired thousands, including the children, with the power of his music, folktales and creativity.
In his death, Manipur has lost the leading exponent of its musical nationalism.
His contribution greatly enriched the glory of Manipuri music and children folk literatures of Manipur, said the publication.

Hueiyen Lanpao deeply condoles .
A pall of sorrow and gloom descended the offices of Hueiyen Lanpao this evening on receipt of the news of the expiry of B Jayantakumar Sharma who has been dominating the literary, art and cultural fields in the state for decades.
He was the president of the Hueiyen Lanpao Columnists' Forum and he contributed regularly to the Manipuri edition.
A condolence message was held in the office.
Chaired by Publisher, Soubam Niladhaja Singh, all editors, reporters, management staff and columnists were present.

The Hueiyen Lanpao group of publications and all staff also share the sorrow of the bereaved family members.
