Imphal, April 09 2015 :
People of Noney in Tamenglong district on Thursday expressed unhappiness with Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam who promised to make the Noney Police Outpost into a full-fledged Police Station.
Two years have gone since the Deputy CM assured the Noney people to upgrade the Police Outpost to a full-fledged Police Station during the Orange Festival.
The Noney Police Outpost is located near the National Highway-37 (Imphal-Jiribam road).
Crime related incidents and fatal road mishaps occuring under the jurisdiction of the Police Outpost are handled by it.
But police cases are registered at Nungba Police Station, are often delayed.
Police sources on the other hand informed that the fencing for the proposed Noney Police Station was finished and construction of one barrack, two police quartersType (I) and Type (II)have also been completed so far.
The police outpost currently has nearly 24 police and 25 VDF personnel.
But the strength of the police force is far less and that the number of arms and vehicles is inadequate in tackling crime cases.
Besides, police personnel in some police stations located in remote areas of the five hill districts are armed with sticks only and so they are unsafe when encounters take place among different underground groups.
Almost all the Police Stations in the hills are facing the same problem of lack of sufficient arms and vehicles.
