Inmates from Central jail to be shifted to Sajiwa

The State Home Minister has said that all inmates of the Central Jail would be housed at the newly constructed High Security Prison at Sajiwa Central Jail if and when its construction is over.
Home Minister Gaikhangam was speaking to newsmen on the sidelines of inspecting Manipur Central Jail, Old Lambulane, Sajiwa Jail and the newly constructed High Security Jail, Sajiwa yesterday.
He said the construction of the new High Security Prison would be completed soon.
The Home Minister was accompanied by Principal Secretary (Home), Suresh Babu and various other officials of the Home department.
There are altogether 37 women inmates at the Manipur Central Jail, Old Lambulane including under trial underground cadres, NDPS, NSA detenues and convicted prisoner.
The Home Minister has also strictly instructed the contrators and officials to maintain quality in constructing the High Security Prison.

Gaikhangam also interacted with prisoners at Sajiwa Jail.
He assured that the basic requirements like water supply and sports materials would be provided.
Stating that a phone jammer and CCTV would be installed in the newly constructed jail, the Home Minister said the High Security Prison would be used for imprisoning UG leaders and those who are involved in big crimes.
He also said that jail personnel would be recruited exclusively to man the jail and replace the VDF and Police personnel apart from introducing vocational training programme for the inmates.
A total of 670 under trail and covicted prisoners are jailed in the Shajiwa Central Jail.
