Imphal, May 02 2012:
Literally dubbing the surrender ceremony at Mantripukhri on April 30 as a 'drama', the proscribed UNLF has today asserted that the claim made by the Assam Rifles authority that 22 UNLF cadres were among those who laid down their arms, is baseless and without foundation.
In a statement issued to the press today, senior publicity officer of the outfit, Ksh Yoiheiba said that of the 'hooded militants' who purportedly surrendered, only seven had something to do with the UNLF.
Out of the seven three were deserters while the other four had been discharged on health ground and for family reasons, it said.
The three deserters were named by the UNLF as Sl no.1640 Ninthoukhongjam Nanao alias Namkhaiba son of Pulindro of Moreh Turel Wangma Leikai (deserted in 2009); sl no.2359 Phundreimayum Wahidur Rehman alias Alam son of Nasir of Sora Karanchi Leikai who deserted on March 27, 2012 along with an AK gun and Sl no.2231 Yumnam Korbas alias Chaithaba son of Ibomcha of Waiton Mamang Leikai, who deserted in October 2011 .
The outfit further named the discharged/retired cadres as Sl no.1772 Huiningsungbam Jiban alias Shanalemba son of (L) H Driver of Thinungei Makha Leikai, who was discharged in December 2010 as he was suffering from Hepatitis; Sl no.1868 Laishram Dhananjoy alias Heirakpa son of Chonjol of Heirok part III, Ningthoujam Leikai, who was discharged as his parents had passed away and to look after his younger siblings; Sl no.1739 Pebam Gulapi alias Konseng son of P Tomba of Wabagai Thingel Leikai, who stayed back at home for medical treatment and Sl no.2021 Sarangthem Gogo alias Thawaleima son of Thambal of Toubul Mayaia Leikai, who left home in 2011 on medical ground and settled down to a married life.
It has been the devious designs of the security forces to stage surrender dramas and nurture gangs to create mayhem and confusion among the public of Manipur, charged UNLF.
Citing an example, the outfit claimed that the gang members who recently kidnapped a student of Don Bosco High School for a ransom demand of Rs 3 lakhs all belonged to a gang who were made to stage a surrender drama some time back as part of the Suspension of Opeartion (SoO) group.
The machination of the security forces and the Government is to let loose these gangs free and terrorise the people and in the process start a smear campaign against the genuine revolutionaries, alleged the outfit.
Today the poor are not getting their due and their miseries are multiplying with each passing day, since Manipur became a part of India, alleged UNLF and added that all the violence and killings in the land should be attributed to Manipur being a part of India.
