Parliamentary Secretaries in the pipeline

In an apparent step to pacify frayed nerves and soothe bruished egos, the State Cabinet has decided to draft an Ordinance to facilitate appointment of Parliamentary Secretaries.
The Parliament Secretaries will enjoy the pay and perks as entitled to a Minister of State and whether they will be designated any official work or not will be the prerogative of the Cabinet Minister concerned.
The meeting chaired by Chief Minister O Ibobi deliberated on legal obligations and other urgent requirements in this regard, Home Minister Gaikhangam said.
Manipur Parliamentary Secretary (Appointment, Salary, Allowance and Maintenance) Act will be adopted first as an Ordinance.
Governor Gurbachan Jagat has sought a Cabinet decision in this regard.
Informing that all the North East States except Manipur have the posts of Parliamentary Secretaries, Gaikhangam said that an Act is needed to avoid the litigation which are witnessed a dime a dozen in some States.
On asked about the number of Parliamentary Secretaries, the Home Minister said that it would be decided by the Chief Minister.
Regarding the death of Loitam Richard, Gaikhangam said that a senior police officer not lower than the rank of an SP would be sent to Bangalore to gather necessary reports.
Gaikhangam added that he has got an application from the family of Richard seeking the intervention from the State Government into the incident.
The third expansion took place on April 28 .
