Imphal, April 25:
Even as MEELAL activists have intensified their agitation to demand the implementation of Meetei Mayek from this academic year and burnt a number of Government offices and private vehicles, the Government today issued an order effecting the transfer of 10 police officers of the rank of SP including the SPs of Imphal West and Imphal East.
SP of Imphal West, S Ibocha has been transferred as the SP of Churachandpur while SP of Bishnupur, Clay Khongsai will take over as the new SP of Imphal West.
The Imphal East SP Kh Chandramani Singh has been transferred to Senapati while his place will be taken by the SP of Thoubal, L Kailun.
The other police officers transferred include SP of Churachandpur Lhari Dorjee Lhatoo (IPS) as SP Bishnupur, CO 4th IRB P Dhanakumar (MPS) as SP CID (SB), Additional SP Churachandpur Lunsieh Kipgen (IPS) as CO 4th IRB, SP Senapati V Rajrai (MPS) as SP DGCR and Additional SP Thoubal Nishitkumar Ujjwal (IPS) as SP Thoubal.
The order also informed that SP DGCR Vandana Karki (MPS) has been attached to Police Hqs.
Ibocha and Chandramani will move first said the order adding that they should hand over charge to their respective Additional SPs before leaving their posts.
No reason has been spelt out for the mass transfer of the police officers, particularly the SPs of Imphal West and Imphal East.
Their transfer has generated interest in the backdrop of the agitation launched by MEELAL which had affected the twin districts of Imphal.
A top ranking officer informed The Sangai Express that nothing should be read into the transfer of the two SPs of Imphal West and East and explained that their transfer is normal transfer taken in line with the start of a new financial year.
Following the torching of the State Central Library, the State Government had put the two ADGs C Peter Ngayanhui and Y Joykumar on compulsory wait.
A source informed that the two ADGs may be given their charge soon.
