Education Minister Francis Ngajokpa distributed pension amount to 60 beneficiaries of Old Aged Pension scheme during a simple function held on April 23 at the remote Willong village, located 37 kilometres from Maram under Tadubi Assembly Constituency.
The Minister also distributed 46 quintal of rice under Annapurna Scheme to the elderly persons of the village who are not in a position to come down to Senapati District headquarters to get the benefits.
Speaking at the occasion, Ngajokpa said along with electrification of the village, steps have also been taken up since March this year to supply adequate safe drinking water to the villagers.
The only facilities which are still left to be taken care of is the setting up of a proper Govt school and the construction of the village playground, he said, while assuring the gathering that all these works would be taken up in due course of time soon.
On April 24, a reception function in honour of the visiting Minister was held at Yangkhullen, located 18 kilometres from Willong village.
At the occasion, the Minister handed over Rs 1 lakhs to the village elders for repairing the road connecting Willong Khunou and Yangkhullen as first instalment from the total estimated cost required for the purpose.
The Minister also promised the villagers of completing the task of laying the required pipelines for making adequate drinking water available to them.
Expressing serious concern over the failure in achieving the target set to electrify the village within March 2004, the Minister said that he would consult the officials of the Electricity Department for completion of the task at the earliest possible.
