Imphal, April 25:
Seva Pharuky, general secy of National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW) has today announced that the federation would launch a campaign for setting up National Commission for Women in the State as well as withdrawal of the repressive Armed Forces Special Powers Act.
Besides these, the NFIW along with its State units would also move for implementing women reservation in the electoral seats and other sectors -Health, Education and women related programmes- inserted in the Common Minimum Programme, she said at a press conference at Irawat Bhavan this afternoon before wrapping up her three day visit to the State.
She also stated that the Federation would launch a nation wide campaign for setting up a National Women's Commission in the State so as to check the crimes committed by security personnel on women folks.
Endorsing the demand of the Manipuri womenfolk, she said that the federation would provide full cooperation from its side while pointing out that the grievances of the women would be addressed and taken into account legally once the commission is established.
On AFSPA, she said they have been demanding for repealing it at the earliest so that the people could lead their lives in a dignified manner.
The act which gives unbridled powers to the armed forces to do as they like cannot have a place in a democratic set up, she added.
