Suspected UGs attacked an Assam Rifles convoy killing two AR personnel and injuring four others at Sonapur five Kms east of Jiribam PS this morning at around 9.The two deceased AR personnel have been identified as Haolang Konyak (26) s/o H Nolset Konyak of Khangyang Village under Mon Dist and Naik Subedhar Narendrachand Thakuri of Uttaranchal.
According to reports, the incident occurred when well armed UGs attacked the AR convoy with bombs and sophisticated weapons killing the two AR personnel instantly.
Following the incident, additional security forces rushed to the area and combed the area.
According to police, all the wounded AR personnel have been shifted to Silchar Hospital.
PRO of PIB Defence Wing had no official information on being contacted and said that the AR authority has not issued any statement.
Meanwhile, a spokesman of the UNLF has claimed responsibility for the death of six AR personnel in the attack today.
Detailing the attack, the spokesman said that a well armed team of the MPA carried out the attack using bombs and other heavy weapons.
He further informed that all the six victims were occupants of a Gypsy which bore the full impact of the attack.
In another incident, 13 Assam Rifles troops shot dead a suspected UG during at a spot between Ikou and Ganpijang under Saikul PS this morning at around 4.Quoting AR Assam Rifles authorities PIB Defence Wing said said that based on specific information about the presence of UGs in general area between Genbiyang and Makokching, troops of 13 Assam Rifles launched an operation on the night of April 24.In a fierce gunfight one hardcore militant was killed while one managed to escape.
The slain cadre has been identified as Kinser Khongsai (25).One AK-56 rifle and magazine with 16 rounds were recovered from the slain militant.
