Imphal, April 25 (NNN):
The Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong has lambasted the SPF Government saying that the Government has been ignoring and treating Ukhrul district and its people with step-motherly treatment and in the process a number of Tangkhul leaders have been victimised.
The TKS in a statement issued by its president Phaorei Lunghar stated that the latest victim of the SPF Government is Additional Director General of Police C Peter who hails from Ukhrul district.
The Tangkhul student body recounted that the ADGP was made a scapegoat for the security lapses that led to MEELAL activists burning down the State Central Library on April 13.The TKS statement said that C Peter was on leave when the arson occurred at the Central Library.
The statement further narrated that in the absence of Manipur DGP AK Prasar ADGP C Peter was given the charge as DGP but on April 11 the ADGP had handed over the charge of DGP and had gone on leave adding "since then whatever had happened with regard to the security front should not be directed towards Peter".
The Tangkhul student body alleged that the ADGP has been put on Compulsory Wait (CW) unfairly.
The student body also accused Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh of acting without investigating the matter properly.
"O Ibobi Singh who was in New Delhi at the time of the arson at the Central Library sent a fax message to the Principal Secretary of Home Department instructing the latter to take up measures against C Peter," charged the TKS statement.
TKS lamented that though C.Peter is the senior-most IPS officer in Manipur he is not being promoted to the rank of DGP and said that "this is a clear indication that there is a hidden agenda of the Govt of Manipur towards Ukhrul district and its people.
The TKS also recalled the time when not a single MLA from the Ukhrul district or from the Tangkhul community had been given a ministerial berth during the down-sizing exercise.
