Imphal, July 24 2022:
All Manipur Trade Unions Council
(AMTUC) has appealed to the state government to hold a meeting of State Advisory
Board at the earliest to ensure wages of
labourers are at par with the present time.
In a release, AMTUC general secretary
A Premkumar Singh decried that though
the government had formed a 31-member
State Advisory Board under Section 42 of
Code on Wages, 2019 on January 20, 2019,
no meeting of the Board has taken place
which has resulted in state's labourers still
continuing to do work under low wages.
At a time, Covid-19 pandemic has affected
people hard and prices of commodities are
sky high, the labourers of the state have
to work on wages that were fixed by the
government years ago, it noted.
AMTUC also stated that the Union in
collaboration with Employees Provident
Fund Organisation (EPFO) State Special
Office and Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) State Branch Office is going
to organise an enrolment drive for Pradhan
Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Yojna (PMSYM) scheme which enables labourers from
unorganised sector under the age of 40 to
receive pension of Rs 3000 per month when
they reach 60 years of age.
Hence, unorganised workers of the state
especially, street vendors, construction
workers, etc., should join the enrolment
drive and avail benefits of the PM-SYM
scheme initiated by the Union government, it added.
AMTUC also informed
that a meeting of its executive committee was held on Friday which approved
registration and affiliation of Solid Waste
Management Plant Mazdoor Sangh and
also Khuman Lampak Ema Keithel, registration No.100 of 2003.The meeting also
resolved to pressure the government to
implement the long delayed Shops and
Establishment Act, it further conveyed.
