Imphal, July 24 2022:
The Manipur Loumi Lup (MLL) has urged the State Government to resolve the issue of fertilizers shortage and take up swift action to provide facilities for irrigation at paddy fields which have started developing cracks.
Speaking to media persons at Irawat Bhawan today, MLL president N Singhajit said that the farmers in Manipur have been put in a difficult position due to non availability of urea and shortage of water for irrigation.
Claiming that the Dolaithabi Dam which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not working properly, Singhajit continued that many fields which are adjacent to canals and linked with the dam have started developing cracks.
Continuing that all the crops will wither if there is no rain for another five-six days, he urged the Government to take up prompt measures to resolve the problem.
Singhajit further stated that many farmers haven't received any subsidised urea from the Government and the same is hindering their farming activities greatly.
Saying that the State Government has lifted only about 10,400 MT of urea which is far lesser than the entitled 24 thousand MT, he further urged the State Government to do the needful and distribute urea to the genuine farmers in a free and fair manner.
