Land dispute discussed with CSO leaders

Imphal, July 24 2022:
Following a land dispute over construction of a Meira Paibi shed at Iram Siphai Mamang Leikai Keithel Macha, local people including Meira Paibi groups held a joint meet with representatives of
civil society organisations of the state on Sunday.
The meeting was attended by representatives of United Committee Manipur, All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation, National Identity Protection
Committee, UMO, Tammi Chingmi and Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur.
Manipur Human Rights Commission acting chairperson Khaidem Mani, Iram Siphai elder Maibam Samdev and Babloo Loitongbam of Human Rights Alert also took part in the meeting during which local Meira Paibi leader Asem Sanatombi Leima said that the foundation stone was laid for construction of a Meira Paibi shed at Keithel
Macha in 2018 with approval from elders of the local committee.
However, local elders opposed when construction process started this year and accordingly local Meira Paibi leaders approached Manipur
Human Rights Commission.
Those opposing construction of the shed even claimed that the land belong to an individual and removed the foundation stone using JCB, she said and strongly called for making the area a public place.
